The world of EV charging is gathering in the Netherlands for global testing symposium

On November 15 and 16 more than 400 experts in the fields of electric mobility, charging infrastructure, ICT and grid management will attend the Global EV Charging Test at the ElaadNL testing facilities in Arnhem, the Netherlands. This international event is dedicated to testing open standards and universal protocols for charging electric cars: ISO15118 (communication between car and charging station) and OCPP (communication between charging station and back office). It will also feature workshops, presentations and a Smart Charging showcase.

ElaadNL, the Dutch knowledge and innovation centre for Smart Charging, is passionate about open standards for everything related to charging electric cars. Open and universally applicable protocols will strengthen the rise of electric mobility. It is important that EV’s, charging stations, apps, back-office systems and software speak ‘the same language’. That way new innovations from big companies and small initiatives can work together on the same platform. In the near future combining open standards with Smart Charging will lead to a better use of sustainable energy in electric vehicles.

ElaadNL is the initiator of the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) an open communication standard that allows charging stations and Charging Station Management Systems (CSMS) from different vendors to easily communicate with each other. The ISO15118 is an international standard for communications between electric cars and charging stations. At the Global EV Charging Test both OCPP and ISO15118 implementations will be tested during the ‘OCPP Plugfest’ and during the tenth edition of the ‘15118 Testing symposium’.

Parallel to the testing activities all participants and attendees will share their knowledge during workshops about (among other things) Public Key Infrastructure, multiple presentations by participating companies and a series of lectures called ‘Elaad-talks’, featuring inspiring speakers on the subject of open source and Smart Charging.
